About Me
With a decade of experience, Lim Kuan specialises in resolving corporate and commercial disputes, as well as IP & Technology disputes. He has appeared before all tiers of the Malaysian courts and has conducted advocacy himself as Counsel in addition to his role as solicitor.
Complementing his contentious IP and Technology work, he regularly attends to trademark and copyright registrations as a Registered Trademark Agent, providing him with a well-rounded understanding of the IP landscape.
Lim Kuan began his career as a pupil-in-chambers at a Tier 1 Legal 500 law firm in Malaysia since 2015 where he gained enriching experience in dispute resolution. He later continued at the same firm as an associate and was promoted to senior associate.
He read law at Multimedia University and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2016. Lim Kuan is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Malay, and various Chinese dialects, enabling him to communicate seamlessly with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Lim Kuan also sits as independent director of a Malaysian public listed company.

Corporate & Commercial Disputes

Represented an Egyptian company in recovering defrauded sums against a Malaysian fraudster in excess of RM1.8million (EUR400,000), within 1 month from date of appointment. The client secured victory in the proceeding as the Malaysian fraudster pleaded guilty against the criminal charges.

Represented a Japanese company in High Court of Malaya in recovering investment sum and returns against a Malaysian company and its directors in excess of RM2million.

Represented a local company and its director in High Court of Malaya in defending against a well-known Malaysia property listing website on amongst others, breach of confidential information and conspiracy to injure.

Represented a local company specializing in furniture designing in High Court of Malaya in claiming for breach of employment agreement, breach of fidelity, copyright infringement, breach of confidential information against their ex-employee and infringing third party.

Represented a cryptocurrency investor in Court of Appeal in Putrajaya in recovering 11.5 Ethereum from the Defendant on grounds of breach of contract.

Represented a local unlisted public company in obtaining Court Order for a proposed selective capital reduction where the shares to be reduced is RM2million.

Represented a local printing company in defending against claims by a courier services company (in liquidation), including obtaining leave from Court to counterclaim against the said courier services company.

Represented a local company in the fast fashion industry in High Court of Malaya defending against trademark invalidation proceedings.

Represented Malaysia’s largest bubble tea operator in High Court of Malaya defending an injunction against its Taiwanese foreign franchisor.

Represented an e-commerce seller in High Court of Malaya defending claims of passing off and copyright infringement against a locally well-known group of companies specializing in Feng Shui and Chinese Metaphysics.

Land & Tenancy Disputes

Acted as Counsel for a local company in in High Court of Malaya in claiming specific performance against the vendor to transfer a plot of land valued at RM9million and defending against removal of caveats application

Represented a well-known Malaysian departmental store in in High Court of Malaya acting against its landlord (a shopping mall in Penang) to recover damages for sudden closure of the mall and obtaining judgement in excess of RM1.25million against the said landlord in.

Represented a local company in acting concurrently against 4 tenants for non-payment of rent for 7 units of MSC-Grade A offices where a judgement in excess of RM400,000 (including double rental), writs of possession and writs of seizure and sale were obtained against the 4 tenants in Sessions Court.

Represented a group of local landlords in acting against a tenant (restaurant operator) for non-payment of rent (during MCO) where a judgement in excess of RM380,000.00 (including double rental), and writ of possession was obtained against the tenant in Sessions Court.
